Issue Overview
Customers utilizing older versions of the MFT pyrometer firmware may encounter operational difficulties. Specifically, temperature readings may take an excessive amount of time to stabilize or may fail to stabilize entirely. Updating the firmware to the latest version resolves these performance issues.
Requirements
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Hardware | Emerson / Cooper-Atkins MFT Pyrometer |
| IPAD Device | IPAD with Bluetooth capability |
| Software | Blue2Reader |
Critical Preparation
Before beginning the update process, ensure the following steps are completed to prevent interference:
- Force close out of the Squadle Checklists application on your Squadle tablet OR power off your Squadle tablet.
-
Search for "Blue2 Reader" from Emerson, Cooper-Atkins from your device's app store and download it to your mobile device.
-
Turn On the pyrometer and open the Blue2 Reader (please ensure the phone's Bluetooth is turned on, pairing will be done through the app, not the Settings menu). **If the probes light is not blinking then hit the Power button once to activate the Bluetooth on the probe, the light should be flashing Green at this point**
-
Select scan and select the Blue2 - MFT, by this point the probe should be blinking Blue once connected.
-
After the probe loads on your phone look at the bottom right side for "Firmware Update".
-
The firmware version needs to be 4.02. You can verify this by going to the top of this screen where you should see the firmware version below the heading "This Device" and "Hardware version". If the version is anything other than 4.00 select Check for Update, then run the update.
-
At this time the pyrometer will turn off and the updates will be applied to the pyrometer.
- After this is complete you are all set! You can start using the pyrometer with the tablet and delete the app from your phone. (Note: This is not necessary to use the Squadle Checklist app. This is a one time update that you should complete and the app should be removed.)
- Close Apps: Fully close the Squadle app to ensure it does not attempt to communicate with the probe during the update.
- Bluetooth Settings: Turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone.
- Device Management: Disconnect any other Bluetooth devices currently paired with your phone (e.g., headphones, speakers).
Update Procedure
- Download the App: Ensure the Cooper-Atkins MFT application is installed on your IPAD device.
- Power On: Turn on your MFT Pyrometer.
- Pair Device: Open the MFT application and pair your pyrometer with the smartphone via the in-app prompts.
- Check for Updates: Once connected, the app will typically notify you if a firmware update is available. Navigate to the device settings or info section within the app if a notification does not automatically appear.
- Initiate Update: Select "Update Firmware" and keep the smartphone within close proximity to the pyrometer until the progress bar reaches 100%.
- Restart: After the update is complete, power the pyrometer off and then back on to finalize the software installation.
Verification
Once the update is complete, reopen your standard operating software (e.g., Squadle) and verify that the temperature readings stabilize within the expected timeframe.
